A successful operations function can significantly influence an organization’s competitiveness in today’s challenging global economy. This course is designed to prepare the operations manager to plan overall strategy, develop tactical alternatives, and make sound operations decisions. The course develops the functional role of the operations manager, and examines the interdependent relationships within the organization–marketing and sales, product development and engineering, and finance and accounting. Students acquire the value concepts of quality, productivity, product design, effective process design, planning, and documentation. Strategies for facility layout, materials handling, and facility location analysis are studied as well.
